I bought this car in February '02 from Kompact Kar Korner for a little over 10k. When I bought the car I knew that I was going to have to do have some work on the engine since it only came with a 350 in it, but I was amazed at what perfect condition the top and interior were in. It came loaded with power steering, power windows, and custom power, oil, and temperature gauges, and knew I had to have it from the first minute I saw it.
Within the first week of having the car I had run out and installed an alarm system and MP3/CD/Tuner/Satalite radio deck. I was still getting used to driving the car the first time I drove it in the rain. The road was wet and the ass of the car spun around when I turned a corner, and I wound up over-correcting my steering and hitting the curb pretty hard with the front passenger side tire. In hitting the curb with such force, I actually pushed the entire front passenger tire back about 2 inches, and completely dented the hell out of my stock rims. I took the car to a local shop to have them straighten out the frame damage, and in the process of repairing the frame damage my little curb-ride did, they discovered some previous frame damage which had not been properly repaired. As a result of the previous damage not being repaired properly, I wound up having to pay just shy of 3K to actually fix it since they had to throw my car up on the 20-ton rack to even get the frame to straighten out.
I get the car back after the frame is straightened, and immediately drive it over to Les Schwab tires to buy some new rims and tires. I bought 17" rally rims for the rear and 15" rally rims for the front. When I bought the new rims, I also had to buy new tires for the rear, so I went with oversized tires 2" wider in back than in front. After driving around for a day or so with my new rims and tires, I noticed that my oversized rear tires would drag on the body when I went over bumps, because the shocks were too loose. I returned to les Schwab and had them install some new adjustable air shocks, and had them adjusted so to be much more stiff.
I was happy with the car for about 3 months, before I started hearing a rather loud knocking sound, which I knew meant the engine was on its last leg, and that I was going to have to be dumping some money into the engine soon. A few weeks later at about 2am I threw a rod right through the side of my block, leaving a huge 4" gap, while racing and doing a sustained 140 for about 30 seconds (FYI, Old oldsmobile engines and high RPMS are not a good combo).
.... rest of story coming soon ... just have to find some free time to finish writing it up.
Everything in the engine is brand new parts, below is just a list of some of the more interesting parts.
